Extension & Outreach

Ohio carries more cities in the national top-50 for bed bug infestations than any other state. Cincinnati, Columbus, and Cleveland all rank in the top twenty. Our extension and outreach work exists to close the gap between what we learn in the lab and what Ohioans, pest management professionals, and housing stakeholders need in order to act

Publications for the public

  • The Bed Bug Threat: Ohioline Fact Sheet ENT-0103 (2025). With D. Short and E. McDermott
  • Bed Bug Look-Alikes: Ohioline Fact Sheet (2026). A side-by-side visual guide to help Ohioans distinguish bed bugs from common confusers, co-authored with Abdulafees Hamzat and Grace Amponsah

Talks and training

We regularly deliver continuing-education content to licensed pest management professionals through the Ohio Pesticide Safety Education Program, the Ohio Pest Management Association, and the Ohio Mosquito & Vector Control Association and to community and housing organizations across Ohio. Topics span bed bug management, cockroach control, and the biology driving urban pest resilience
